Manchester Girl Geeks proudly present their 10th Girl Geek Dinner at

Bollywood Masala, 15 - 25 Liverpool Street, Manchester M3 4NW.

For this dinner we have Lorna Mitchell giving her talk "Teach a Man to Fish". Food will be served in a banquet style with different options of starters and mains for all.

- About the Talk: Teach a Man to Fish -

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." so goes the famous Chinese proverb, and the same principle applies elsewhere in life. In development teams, we often recruit to fill skills gaps or to increase our output, which is time-consuming and expensive - and isn't always necessary.
In this session we'll look at strategies for enabling our existing teams to perform better, by seeking and sharing knowledge, skills and processes.
This is the talk for anyone with an ambition to improve their technical or softer skills, for themselves and their futures.

- About the Speaker: Lorna Mitchell -

Lorna is an independent web development consultant and author based in Leeds.
She leads the joind.in open source project, which provides a platform for real-time, public feedback at community events.
She is an experienced event organiser and speaker herself, having hosted the Dutch PHP Conference and co-founded the PHP North West conference and user group.
She has spoken at technical events across Europe and beyond, predominantly on technical topics around PHP and APIs, but also on topics around business, projects and open source. She regularly delivers technical training sessions and is also active as a mentor with PHPWomen.org.
Author of the book PHP Master from Sitepoint, Lorna loves to write and is regularly published at a number of outlets including netmagazine and of course her own blog lornajane.net.
